Yellow Roses

You sent me flowers,
Yellow roses.
You remembered,
Good friend.

I form no illusions.

No teddy bears,
Candy-coated chocolates,
Heart-shaped ballons.

Your way
To say
Still friends;
I care.

When you remember
Send me flowers,
Yellow roses,
My friend.

I know they hold no secrets
Nor fantasies
Nor dreams.

I form no illusions.

  1. It was very interesting how you incorporated a good friend who apparently remembered you like yellow roses in your poem. You made it clear that you accepted and appreciated the flowers without teddy bears or chocolates. Love the poem.

  2. In our busy lives, it is easy to lose touch with even the people we consider dear. Your poem has a sweetness to it as you speak of an old friend (possibly an ex) who went through the trouble of making you happy by sending you the roses you love; possibly because he's currently not able to physically present himself. It was a simple action that delivered much meaning to you.

In the fifth verse, I notice what might be a time gap as you ask that same friend to once again reappear in your life, through the form of yellow roses. It gave me the impression that you're patiently waiting (and will continue to wait) for that sign of reassurance; for him to make that time, all the while expecting those flowers to not change in meaning.

Neither of the two people in this poem are misleading towards one another and their relationship is kept pure with the absence of ulterior motives and unrequited desires, and I really like that about this poem. The yellow roses are more than just flowers here, but they are symbols of that bond.
